The AAC working group was first formed in 2005, consisting of a group of professionals who are interested in the field of AAC. The group included doctors, clinical psychologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech therapists and rehabilitation engineers, who met together regularly at professional and case sharing events. In 2007, the AAC working group joined The Hong Kong Society Child Neurology and Developmental Paediatrics, with missions to develop AAC in Hong Kong through professional advancement, resource development, public education and advocacy. It also aims to provide a platform for all AAC workers in Hong Kong to share knowledge and experience, and to collaborate in serving persons with complex communication needs. Major activities since then have included a territory wide survey on AAC use in Hong Kong , establishment of an AAC resource library, and the formation of focus groups to respectively address low and high communication ability users and AAC technology issues. |
